Things Are Looking Pretty Biblical Out There — Are We Living in Faith or Fear?

Morning Devotional with Kat | The Gathering Place

Today's Scripture: Luke 21:28 (KJV)

"And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh."

When the World Around Us Feels Uncertain

Good morning, friends! ❤️

I don't know about you, but there are days when I look around at everything happening in our world and find myself thinking, "Lord, things sure are looking pretty Biblical out there."

Have you ever felt that way?

It seems that everywhere we turn, there's another story about conflict, division, uncertainty, or something else that leaves us wondering what tomorrow might bring.

People are worried about their families, their finances, their health, and the future of our country and world.

And with so much information coming at us from every direction, it can become overwhelming.

Sometimes I wonder how many of us are spending more time watching what's happening in the world than we are spending time in God's Word.

Because here's something I've learned.

The more attention I give to everything that's going wrong, the easier it becomes to lose sight of everything God has promised.

And that's exactly why we need to keep our hearts grounded in Scripture.

Jesus Told Us Difficult Times Would Come

In Matthew 24 and Luke 21, Jesus spoke to His disciples about events and difficulties that would come.

He warned them about deception, conflict, persecution, and the importance of remaining faithful.

But I think it's important that we remember something.

Jesus wasn't encouraging His followers to spend their lives consumed by fear.

He was teaching them to remain watchful, discerning, and faithful.

And that message is just as meaningful for us today.

We can look at the challenges in our world and recognize that Scripture speaks honestly about human suffering, evil, and uncertainty.

But we should also be careful not to assume that every headline tells us exactly where we are in God's prophetic timeline.

Jesus Himself reminded His followers in Matthew 24:36 that no one knows the day or hour.

Our responsibility isn't to predict God's calendar. It's to remain faithful to His calling.

And friends, that calling hasn't changed.

God Is Not Surprised by What's Happening

One of the most comforting truths in Scripture is that God remains sovereign.

Nothing happening in this world has taken Him by surprise.

He hasn't lost control.

He hasn't forgotten His promises.

And He certainly hasn't abandoned His children.

Hebrews 13:8 reminds us:

"Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever."

Think about what that means.

The same Jesus who walked with His disciples is the same Savior we can turn to today.

The same God who remained faithful throughout Scripture is still faithful.

His character hasn't changed because our circumstances have.

His love hasn't diminished because the world seems more divided.

And His promises haven't become less trustworthy because tomorrow feels uncertain.

Our circumstances may change, but the faithfulness of God does not.

Are We Watching the World More Than We're Watching Our Hearts?

Here's a question I've been asking myself lately.

When I see something troubling happening in the world, what's my first response?

Do I become anxious?

Do I get angry?

Do I immediately start worrying about what might happen next?

Or do I stop and pray?

I think many of us, myself included, can become so caught up in everything happening around us that we forget to examine what's happening within us.

And yet, Scripture continually reminds us of the importance of guarding our hearts.

Proverbs 4:23 tells us to keep our hearts with all diligence because the issues of life flow from them.

That doesn't mean we should ignore the world around us.

It means we need to be intentional about what we're allowing to shape our thoughts, attitudes, and actions.

Are we allowing fear to determine our decisions?

Are we allowing anger to change the way we treat others?

Are we allowing uncertainty to weaken our trust in God?

Or are we choosing to remain grounded in His Word?

Friends, we cannot always control what's happening around us, but we can choose where we place our trust.

Being a Light in a Dark World

Jesus said in Matthew 5:14:

"Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid."

I love that verse because it reminds us that our faith isn't meant to be hidden away until life becomes easier.

We're called to shine right where God has placed us.

And sometimes that light looks like something very simple.

It might be showing kindness to someone who's having a difficult day.

It might be choosing forgiveness when someone has hurt us.

It might be praying for a person we disagree with.

It might be offering encouragement to someone who's struggling.

Or it might simply be refusing to participate in the anger and bitterness that seem so common around us.

We don't have to agree with everyone to treat them with love and respect.

We don't have to understand everything that's happening to trust God's wisdom.

And we don't have to have all the answers to share the hope we have in Jesus Christ.

Sometimes the greatest testimony we can offer is a peaceful heart in the middle of an uncertain world.

Look Up, Not Just Around

Today's Scripture comes from Luke 21:28.

Jesus encouraged His followers to lift up their heads as they looked toward the hope of redemption.

What a beautiful reminder.

When we're overwhelmed, our natural tendency is often to look around.

We look at our circumstances.

We look at our problems.

We look at everything that seems to be falling apart.

But Jesus calls us to remember something greater.

Our hope is not ultimately found in the condition of this world.

Our hope is found in Him.

That doesn't mean our lives will be free from difficulty.

It doesn't mean we won't experience grief, disappointment, or uncertainty.

But it does mean that our circumstances do not have the final word.

God's promises do.

And because of that, we can face tomorrow with courage.

What Should We Be Doing Today?

If the world feels uncertain, perhaps the most important thing we can do is return to the simple truths of our faith.

Spend time in God's Word.

Not just reading headlines or listening to other people's interpretations, but opening our Bibles and seeking to understand what God has actually said.

Make prayer a daily priority.

Bring your worries, questions, and concerns before the Lord.

Love the people God has placed in your life.

Our families, friends, neighbors, and even those we disagree with need to see the love of Christ reflected in our actions.

Practice discernment.

Not every alarming message we see or hear is accurate. We should seek truth rather than allowing fear to guide us.

Remain faithful in the little things.

Sometimes we become so focused on what might happen tomorrow that we forget about the opportunities God has given us today.

And friends, today matters.

The way we love matters.

The way we speak matters.

The way we treat others matters.

And the way we trust God matters.

Today's Morning Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for another day and another opportunity to walk with You.

Lord, when I look around at everything happening in our world, sometimes it's easy to feel overwhelmed.

There's so much uncertainty, confusion, and division.

But Father, I know that You are still on Your throne.

Your promises haven't changed, and Your love for us remains steadfast.

Help me not to become consumed by fear or distracted by things I cannot control.

Give me wisdom to recognize truth, discernment to understand Your Word, and courage to stand firm in my faith.

When the world feels dark, help me reflect Your light.

When others are angry, help me respond with kindness.

When I'm tempted to worry, remind me to pray.

And when tomorrow seems uncertain, help me remember that You are already there.

Lord, prepare my heart to live faithfully today.

Help me love others the way You have loved me.

Keep my eyes focused on Jesus and my hope firmly rooted in Your promises.

In Jesus' precious name,

Amen.

A Final Thought from Kat

Friends, I don't know what tomorrow will bring.

And neither do you.

But I know this.

God has been faithful through every generation, and He hasn't stopped being faithful now.

We can look around at our world and recognize that there are difficult things happening.

We can acknowledge that life sometimes feels uncertain.

But we don't have to allow fear to take over our hearts.

Instead, let's choose to be people of faith.

People who pray.

People who love.

People who encourage.

People who stand firm in God's Word.

And people who remember that our hope is not found in this world but in Jesus Christ.

The world may look uncertain, but our God remains faithful.

So today, keep your head lifted, your heart grounded in Scripture, and your eyes on Jesus.

Have a beautiful and blessed day, my friends! ❤️

With love and faith,

Kat ❤️
